Jennifer Fujii creates expressive abstract paintings that explore courage, perseverance, and the possibilities found beyond perceived limits. Her work reflects a life shaped by choosing the unconventional path and remaining true to one’s authentic self. For Fujii, painting is both a creative practice and a means of sustaining that courage.
Born and raised in Wisconsin, Fujii moved to Sonoma County more than twenty years ago to pursue her athletic and artistic ambitions. She competed at the highest level of aerobic gymnastics, winning three USA gold medals and placing eighth in the world in 2009. Her experiences as an elite athlete continue to inform her art through an enduring belief in determination, transformation, and possibility.
Fujii has explored color and light since she first began painting in kindergarten. Although she has worked with charcoal, watercolor, encaustic, and oils, she is most passionate about acrylic paint and its capacity for building luminous layers of depth and movement. Her compositions bring together moments that may initially appear unrelated, moving between tranquility and tension, stillness and transformation.
In addition to her studio practice, Fujii is a custom wall artist specializing in American clay and Venetian plaster finishes. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, art shows, and wineries throughout the United States and internationally, and she accepts commissioned projects.
Based in Northern California, Fujii divides her time between her art practice, graduate studies in counseling psychology at the University of San Francisco, and Inspired Fitness, the gym she founded more than twenty years ago.
