Collection: Sergio Nates

Sergio Nates (b. 1965, Mexico City) is a Jewish-Mexican artist whose work bridges geometric abstraction and expressive color. Trained in industrial design and architectural restoration at UNAM, Nates’ early work reflects Mid-20th Century Modernism and abstract expressionism. His recent paintings move toward fluid compositions—elegant bursts of color layered over richly saturated backgrounds with a refined, almost sculptural surface.

Nates has exhibited widely across Mexico, Europe, and the U.S., including at the de Young Museum in San Francisco and the Dallas Museum of Art. His work has also been featured by the Mexican Consulate in San Francisco at the Binational Conference for U.S.-based Mexican artists.
